Tropical forests still cover significant areas of our planet. They account for half of all forests globally, are extremely rich in species, store enormous amounts of carbon and thus stabilize our climate. At the same time, they provide indispensable raw materials for mankind – especially in emerging countries with high construction activity, wood consumption is constantly increasing.
But despite their importance, tropical forests are highly endangered ecosystems. In most cases, forests are still exploited like mines. Sustainable forest use is therefore becoming increasingly important.
