Promoting the ecological use of wood as a resource in housing construction
FSC Netherlands receives funding under the EU LIFE program “Environmental Management and Information” for its project “Increasing the use of wood in Dutch and Danish social housing”. Of course, the wood should come from demonstrably sustainably managed forests. Several barriers to the use of (far) more wood in housing have been identified. One main obstacle is the lack of up-to-date and reliable life cycle assessment (LCA) data. This LCA data is a necessity for calculating the environmental performance of a (wood) building, which is required by law and is increasingly becoming the norm throughout Europe. The development of new and the update of existing LCAs for wood products is therefore an important part of the project and is supported by PFF for tropical woods.
