Celebrating successful defense of Okan Master Thesis

On September 13, 2023, PFF joyfully extended its congratulations to Romaric NDONDA MAKEMBA for the successful defense of his Ph.D. thesis. It was a great pleasure for PFF to contribute support to Romaric’s thesis, which delves into comprehending the historical, biological, and environmental mechanisms shaping the current structure of Okan (C. gabunensis’ populations). The goal was to recommend suitable regeneration methods.

This research gives new important evidence on the role of past human activities and edaphic factors on the fine-scale distribution of an important timber species in the tropics and is an important basis for the further development of sustainable forest management.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Prof. Jean-Louis Doucet, the teams of Gembloux Agro-Bio Tech, Masuku University of Science and Technology Franceville, Precious Woods, and CEB Gabon for their invaluable collaboration on this project. Together, we are paving the way for a more informed and sustainable approach to forest management.
